Still trying to fight that lingering cold that seems to be taking a permanent nap in the hammock of your health? Though Cold-FX claims to do wonders, you can never deny the powers of the age-old hot water bottle. So show it some love and sew it a sweater.
(1) Find an old sweater that has seen it’s last day (as a garment).
(2) Create a template: place your hot water bottle on a piece of white paper and trace around it. Then add 5/8” seam allowance around the perimeter and 1” seam allowance at the top.
(3) d cut out this shape twice.
(4) Fold down the top of each piece at the 1” measurement and stitch on the top at 5/8” and sew each individually.
(5) Next, place the pieces together, right sides together and sew at 5/8”.
(6) Lastly, load a large-eyed needle with a piece of yarn and stitch around the neck of the cozy (this will gather up the top and give it a cute effect). Take stitches that are approximately a 1/4” and make sure to leave tails to tie a bow afterwards.

Ever wondered what that strawberry is for? Yeah, the one that comes along with the tomato pincushion. Well it’s not there for decoration, its purpose is to sharpen your pins and needles. The strawberry is filled with a mineral called "emery". So if you’ve invested in some nice pins, especially the ones with the cutesy flowers and shapes on the ends, don’t toss them when they get dull. Just introduce them to the juicy strawberry!

•Make sure you join us for our birthday celebration (we’ve spent one year on Avenue Road) on April 12th from 6 – 10 p.m. The festivities will be at a high with awesome music, projects to sew, eats and drinks. There will also be amazing door prizes that you don’t want to miss out on. Plus, our second location in Pickering will be having its grand opening on April 13th! Two amazing events in two nights. We’d love to see you at both! Party on!

So this month we’re trying something new. We’ve decided to try our hands as auto-mechanics, and since we’re…April Fools! Ha, yeah right, we’re sticking to what we know and do best—sewing! And this month we’ve got another session of classes starting along with a Passover Bootcamp.

Introductory Sewing, starting April 13th-19th (TO & Picks) |
|
|
| |
Are you the owner of a boxed-up, dusty sewing machine in need of a good oiling? Did you have expectations for the relationship the two of you could have had? We’re here to tell you that there is help and counseling available. If you take this class you will learn how to deal with commitment issues (finishing projects), develop better habits (pinning properly, putting fabric on grain, etc.) and many new tricks to keep that spark alive (you’ll make a drawstring bag, a zippered pouch and your own skirt based off a commercial pattern). If you’re a beginner or coming back for a refresher, this is the course for you!
