FASHION SCHOOL 2
Prepping for first year fashion and beyond.
This program is for anyone about to begin their education or career in fashion. We’ll go over the basic skills you should have before beginning a fashion program, and you’ll learn what to expect in your first year. Learn about different fashion career options, salaries, and job-hunting skills, and know the educational requirements and the courses that will prepare you for your chosen field. This class will also touch on what’s involved in starting your own design business.




Week 1
- Various fashion careers, salaries, and educational requirements
- How to structure a fashion-focused resume
- How to look for a job in fashion
- Interview skills
- Internships

Week 2
- Sketchbooks
- Finding inspiration and translating it into your designs
- How to catalogue you ideas and reference materials

Week 3
- Illustration skills you should have before beginning a fashion program
- The difference between technical flats and illustrations
- Various mediums to work in
- Computer illustration programs
- Translating ideas and magazine images to an illustration

Week 4
- Fabric knowledge and experimentation
- Basic sewing and pattern skills you should have before beginning a fashion program

Week 5
- Stock up before your first day
- Shopping for supplies
- Insider suppliers and contractors
- International suppliers and ordering online

Week 6
- Working in fashion
- How to design a fashion line
- Knowing industry styles and terms
- The most important skills you’ll need
- Your resume and portfolio

Week 7
- A career in fashion
- Working in a fashion house, on private contract, a boutique, or beginning your own line
- How to put together a collection
- Pricing your work
- In-house and outsourcing
- Marketing your work and yourself

Cost: $350 including gst (This course has a maximum of 15 students.)

Course duration: 2.5 hours a week for seven weeks (During holidays—summer, Christmas, spring break—this course runs as a week-long camp and students come to the studio three hours a day for five consecutive days.)

Prerequisite: None!
