Ribbon Bookmark
So you’ve picked up Oprah’s book of the month, and you keep shoving a Loblaws receipt between pages to hold your spot. Instead of continuing to use that meager scrap of paper, find a piece of ribbon and fancy it up a bit.
(1) Choose your ribbon length.
(2) Square off one end, and fold the other into a point, stitching in place on the wrong side
(3)Take some embroidery thread and sew it to the point, add a button or beads and fray the ends or simply double thread and sew it down!
(4)Read on! |

Bet you didn’t know that there are many different types of pins and that they each serve a different purpose. Here’s the first part of our pin-tastic tip series detailing what you need to know when choosing your pins. You must first consider the point of your pins and the relationship with your fabric choice. Sharp pins are all-purpose and are great for medium-weight, heavyweight fabric and fabric that is loosely woven. Extra-sharp pins are more defined and (surprise) sharper. They enter the fabric very smoothly and are the best choice for fine fabrics. Lastly, ballpoint pins are only for knits, the point of the pin is round allowing it to glide in between the loops of the fabric without comprising the fabric or pulling the yarns. More to come on pins next month!

• We’re having a studio birthday party at 266 Avenue Road on the 12th of April (from 6pm through the evening), and a grand opening party at our Pickering location at the foot of Liverpool road on April 13th (from 1-6pm).
• Next month’s Feature Workshop: Baby Boom, April 6th.
