    Project of The Month

Happy back-to-school! September means it’s time to pack up your bikinis (YAY!) and pull our your creative accoutrements. Enter crafty hobbies and sewing classes. Start hibernating early: Our next session of classes starts next week and we’ve got loads of beginner classes, a Drop-in, and—finally—the MAN CLASS (girls welcome). Also starting next week is our new Kids After School program for youngsters who love making things. We’ve got some details below and even more online. See you! — Denise

Embroidered card

(great for birthdays and thank-yous)

  1. Choose any dimension of paper and pick a super cool thread.
  2. Trace a design on your card with a coloured pencil (if it shows through it’ll still look good) and machine-sew over your design or just go crazy and see what you end up with.
  3. Apply postage and mail.

sewing tip

Metallic thread can be such a funky detail when topstitching, but it can be a real pain when the thread breaks. To solve this problem, double up and thread the needle with an all-purpose thread in addition to the metallic thread. Match colours as best as you can, or try an eye-catching contrast.

Stay Tuned

Another Junior Fashion Series is around the corner (in October). This time, instead of our teen fashion class being set up like a Monday-to-Friday camp, it’ll happen once a week in the evenings for five weeks. That means you still have time to go to school and study! Ha.

We’re concocting another great website. The plan is to have online classes and projects everyone can enjoy (including moms with 10 kids and single gals living in Manitoba). We’re working on it through the fall and will keep you posted. In the meantime, let us know if there’s anything specific you’d like to see.

  Upcoming Classes

The crisp autumn air is on its way back so that means we’re switching from cotton linen to wool blends here at the studio. And to keep busy, we’ve got some great new classes including our new Kids After School program our highly anticipated Man Class. Don’t forget to book in some Studio Time so you can swing by and finish projects on your own.

  Kids After School

Kids just want to have fun. And they want to learn to sew. So we’ve got a program for those between 8 and 13-years-old. For seven weeks, youngsters will work on a new, creative project in each class. All materials are included in the program cost and a snack will be provided.

  Man Class

This is a great class for men and women alike to get the hang of basic sewing skills such as sewing a button back on, and hemming both trousers and jeans. Best of all you’ll make a pair of drawstring pants that you can show-off once the class is over. (It’s ok if you wear them so much your mom compares them to that Batman costume you wouldn’t take off when you were a kid.)

  sIntroductory Sewing

Tried, tested and true and it’s not a Chevy. It’s our favorite class. This is the way we induct you into the world of sewing. Learn crucial sewing skills in this class and make projects including a skirt and a drawstring bag.

  sQuick Start

This is the sister class to our Introductory Sewing class. With fewer weeks to commit to, it’s a quicker introduction to the machine and the basics. The highlight of this class is the fancy apron you’ll be making.

  sDrop-in

Got a project on the go or one that you want to get started on? With an instructor available at all times, you’ll be able to work on your project with confidence.
